MAN301 – MUSIC ARCHIVE NETWORK PLAYER

The MAN301 is a system for music archiving, music library maintenance, music playback, CD ripping, Internet radio streaming and more.
The MAN301 comes in two versions, the “DAC” version includes a D/A Converter (the MAN301DAC), the “SERVER” version has digital outputs only for connecting an external D/A Converter (the MAN301SERVER). The SERVER version can be user upgraded to the DAC version at any time.
A complete MAN301 system consists of:
- The MAN301 Base Station as pictured below
- An external NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, typically a harddisk or an array of harddisks. This allows for virtually unlimited storage space for music files.
- An iPad device with the Weiss app for remote control of the Base Station.
- A means of accessing the Internet by the Base Station for fetching CD cover art and CD metadata.

- multiple users per MAN301 device are supported, each with his/her own music library, playlists, searches etc.
- all common audio file formats (uncompressed, lossless compressed, lossy compressed) are supported for playback and ripping
- music library displayed according to album names, artist names, genres, recently played, recently added
- powerful search facility, allows to store searches which result in dynamic playlists
- playlists are easily added, edited and can be set safe
- volume control in 4 coarse analog steps and with a high resolution, dithered digital fader
- powerful cover art search algorithm which allows the user to select the most appropriate cover art out of an intelligent pre-selection
- CD metadata fetching from various databases
- comprehensive user interface on iPad, easily to be handled even by computer novices
- software upgradeable via Internet
- internet radio streaming
- future software upgrades will include various DSP facilities

Thank you very much. I wish you enjoy the high performances DAC202. Indeed the MAN301S-Server version is exactly designed to pair with DAC202/Medea+. There are many DAC202 users who still like high quality CD playback, (MAN301 uses modern technology to ripped the CD Audio data to SSD hard disk as ram buffer for ultra high quality CD Audio playback). From that point we extend our imagination to include perfect CD ripping, tagging and album artwork to become an archive system in combination of unlimited storage external NAS. As you may read the MAN301 can be connected to DAC202/Medea+ with firewire connection. This enable Async connection between MAN301S & DAC202. The DAC202 will work as master clock which is theoretical best approach, especially in all kinds of digital 2 boxes system (transport/DAC).
MAN301 include many functions, but everything is very simple to control by an iPad App. This App like the MAN301 commands, are Switzerland Weiss team own creation. MAN301 (code name “ROMA”) has been a four years project, and we are very happy to see it finally launching to the market.

do you actually know which NAS protocols will be supported ? I asked Weiss if Asset Upnp will work and they said yes…

Hello Hans, We have tried two MAN301 prototypes on audio shows, although I have no idea what NAS protocols will be supported. I am sure more information will be provided when the first shipment is start delivery. We are all very excited for this product.
